About the team

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers who work through the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department. The team conducts searches for missing persons throughout Contra Costa County and assists other search teams during mutual aid call outs. Requests for searches must be initiated through the sheriff's office or other law enforcement agency.

In addition to searches, the team performs other duties including:

  • Assisting with evidence searches at crime scenes
  • Hug-A-Tree presentations to local schools and youth groups
  • Assisting with medical services at certain large public events such as the county fair and the Devil Mountain Run in Danville
  • Presenting Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) trainings that teach volunteer groups to assist in the initial response to earthquakes and other disasters
